No critical data leakage reported in suspected cyberattack on regional organisation - Naivalarua
As investigations continue in the suspected cyberattack on a regional organisation based in Suva, Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalarua says as far as he is aware, no critical information has been leaked.

Naivalarua says investigations are ongoing, with the Government managing the incident in close coordination with key agencies.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Naivalarua says the Government is looking more closely into the matter, but is unable to confirm the extent of the suspected hacking or the damage caused.

He says the affected regional organisation is secure at this stage.

When asked whether there were indications that Chinese hackers were responsible, Naivalarua says he is unable to confirm this.

He says the Government is maintaining ongoing communication with its American counterparts and is managing the situation.

The United States Embassy had earlier said it had informed the Fijian Government of a suspected cyberattack on a regional organisation based in Suva, with hackers linked to China believed to have accessed the organisation’s network for several days.

The suspected compromise is believed to have occurred between July and August this year.

The Embassy says it has also provided technical recommendations to the Fijian Government and the affected organisation on steps to protect their networks and strengthen cybersecurity.
