Defending champions, Stratum/Lincoln Rewa has defeated Extra Supermarket Labasa 3–0 in a thrilling FMF Inter-District Championship encounter at HFC Bank Stadium.
Both teams started the match at scoring opportunities.
Rewa and Labasa controlled the game well in the first half, but neither side could find the back of the net.
Rewa stepped up the pressure in the second half, with Josaia Sela finally breaking the deadlock to give Rewa the lead.
Merrill Nand then scored two goals to put Rewa 3–0 ahead.
The three-goal advantage gave Rewa confidence as they took greater control of the match.
Labasa had opportunities to get back into the game, but striker Christopher Wasasala missed two golden chances.
Rewa assistant coach Priyant Manu says it was a tough game.
He says the players had a clear plan and remained committed to it throughout the match.
Manu says Rewa is now just one step away from qualifying for the semifinals.
In other matches today, hosts Kells Investment/Global Care Suva were held to a 2-2 draw by Nasinu, Khelvin Realtors Lautoka defeated Pacific Heavy Industries Nadi 5-2 while Vantex Solutions Navua held Dayals Steel Ba 2-2.
In tomorrow's matches, Lautoka will face Navua at 1.30pm, Nasinu will take on Labasa at 3.30pm, Nadi will play Ba at 5.30pm, while Rewa will face Suva at 7.30pm.
