Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica

The United States is Fiji’s largest and fastest growing export market.

Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica highlighted this during the inauguration of Fiji’s Trade Commission North American Office in Burlingame, California.

The Minister says Fiji has become the hub of trade, investment, and innovation of the Pacific, leading to significant developments.

He says in 2022, there was a 15.6 percent growth in total trade, with a significant 15.4 percent increase in Fijian exports to the US market, that indicates the expanding reach of new Fijian products and businesses throughout the region.

This is where the Trade Commission plays a crucial role in promoting Fiji as the ideal trade and investment destination.

Kamikamica says over a year ago they had a vision for Fiji to move out of its comfort zone and explore new heights and through the inauguration we are putting Fiji’s trade and economic ambitions next to Silicon Valley and in close proximity to the Fijian Diaspora.

He further says Fiji and United States bilateral relationship is experiencing unprecedented levels opening a new chapter that will take Fiji and the US to greater trade and economic heights.

He also acknowledged the presence of Fijians in California and also the Fijian Diaspora in California, the United States, and Canada for their continuous support of Fiji.

The Permanent Secretary Shaheen Ali says Fiji exports to the United States totals over $360 million and has been growing at a rate of 6 percent, the key exports to the US are processed fish, kava and new products like turmeric.

Ali says it will connect businesses, investors, and our diaspora with the Fiji Government, agencies, and businesses back home, bringing new opportunities home.
