Film Fiji has launched development Programs for Fiji Producers Accelerator and a full script development program to support 20 local Scriptwriters and 40 Film Producers with support from the European Union through the ACP-EU Programme facilitated by SPC.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Manoa Kamikamica say these programs are regarded extremely beneficial, not only for Fiji’s audio-visual industry but also in creating and maintaining revenue streams for local artists and their families.
He says Film Fiji aims to support the development of the local Audio-Visual Industry capable of portraying unique voices on the screen and creating new career and business opportunities in the Audio-Visual sector.
The programs will assist their projects by steering them through 4-month industry-specific development programs during 2023.
Meanwhile, Film Fiji CEO, Ramiro Tenorio says these programs will support local filmmakers in Fiji, help scriptwriters perfect their projects, and in required skills and network opportunities for local film producers so that they learn how to present their projects to overseas markets and co-produce internationally
Tenorio also says the main aim is that all the selected candidates complete the accelerator programs, having been provided with specific skill development, creating local intellectual property and an associated revenue stream.
The CEO says there is also an opportunity to develop international relationships with production companies and raise the profile of Fiji as an audio-visual-friendly destination.
The FSDP and FPAP programs are set to launch via the Film Fiji website, and social media platforms this week, where full information can be accessed by the public.
