Fiji and PNG chambers explore new trade opportunities in agriculture and cocoa

With vegetable prices on the rise in Fiji, Nadi Chamber of Commerce President Lawrence Kumar says help could soon come from an unexpected partner, Papua New Guinea.

Kumar revealed to fijivillage News today that discussions are underway between the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce President Rio Fiocco, to explore new business partnerships between the two, particularly in agriculture and cocoa production.

Kumar says the recent prices of tomatoes and broccoli has been rocky, and PNG can step in and supply those goods to the Fijian market at a much more reasonable price.

He says that goods packed in PNG are generally cheaper, offering a promising opportunity for Fijian businesses to reduce costs and improve supply chains.

Kumar adds that if any investor is interested in that area, especially those in Nadi, it will definitely assist local businesses and help them grow.

Kumar says during a business forum which happened this month at the Nalagi Hotel in Nadi, several PNG delegates expressed interest in these areas, including a cocoa producer from PNG who is now exploring a potential partnership with a Fijian business.

He encourages local businesses to consider linking up with PNG counterparts to explore trade, supply, and investment partnerships that would benefit both economies.
