The Manager Policy and Compliance with the Fiji Financial Intelligence Unit, Caroline Pickering as the new Director of the Unit, effective from 1st January 2025.

The Director of the Fiji FIU is appointed by the Governor of the RBF on the recommendation of the National Anti-Money Laundering Council.

Pickering replaces Razim Buksh, who retired from the position in 2023.

RBF Governor, Ariff Ali says he is confident that Pickering is the best person to successfully lead the Fiji FIU into its next growth stage.

He says she has over 25 years of professional experience and expertise as well as strategic leadership capabilities needed to drive the Unit to deliver results in Fiji’s increasingly digital financial landscape, as well as, work with its diverse range of partners in Government and the private sector.

Pickering joined the Fiji FIU in 2006 as the Manager Policy and Compliance.

She was instrumental in developing Fiji’s regulatory and supervisory framework to combat money laundering and financial crime.

In addition, Pickering has extensive experience working with various financial institutions and government agencies to ensure regulatory safeguards are in place to prevent and/or detect financial crime in the financial sector.

During this time, she has also held the acting Director role in many instances.

Prior to joining the Fiji FIU, she worked in the Office of the Auditor-General for over nine years in various audit and leadership roles.

She is an accounting and economics graduate of the University of the South Pacific and is a member of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants.

The Governor congratulated Pickering on the appointment and looks forward to her contribution in combating money laundering to ensure the safety and integrity of Fiji’s financial system.
