20 traders have been charged by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission for various breaches of the FCCC Act 2010.

CEO, Joel Abraham says these traders were found selling certain retail price-controlled items at an excessive price, failing to display prices on items as well as failure to issue receipts during daily inspections.

Abraham says out of these 20 traders, 10 were based in the Central and Eastern divisions, 7 in the Western division while 3 in the Northern division. He says it is a shame to see some traders using the COVID-19 crisis to take advantage of Fijian consumers but has stressed that the FCCC will come down hard on them.

Abraham says over the past 2 weeks their teams has conducted over 950 inspections where 62 cases were filed for enforcement for which 11 are still under investigation.

He adds they have equipped a special response team to deal with such cases and are also monitoring supermarkets for breaches.
