The spirit of Diwali is bringing hope, love and togetherness to families in Bocalevu, Labasa, as residents come together to celebrate the festival of lights today.
Speaking to fijivillage News, resident Nirijan Prasad says Diwali is one of the biggest and most important celebrations in the Hindu religion, representing love, care, forgiveness and unity.
Prasad says the festival is a time to put differences aside, forgive one another and spread love regardless of race or background.
He says although the drought has dried up local water sources, making preparations difficult, the Water Authority of Fiji delivered water to help families get ready for the celebrations.
He thanked the Authority for its assistance, saying sweets have been prepared and homes are ready for Diwali.
Prasad says families are now looking forward to the Diwali Pooja this afternoon and has wished everyone a happy and blessed Diwali.
