The Australian Jillaroos are taking Fiji's Bulikula seriously ahead of their Rugby League World Cup semi-final clash, acknowledging the threat posed by the Fijian side following an impressive campaign in their debut tournament.
The Bulikula have made a strong impression at the tournament, pushing the Kiwi Ferns to the limit in their opening match before recording convincing victories over France and Papua New Guinea.
Jillaroos player Kezie Apps says the team is aware of Fiji's ability to make fast starts, having scored within the opening 10 minutes of their last two matches.
Apps says the Jillaroos have discussed Fiji's strengths and are preparing for what they expect to be a challenging encounter.
She says reaching the semi-finals brings a different level of competition and the team is not taking Fiji lightly.
Apps, who returns to the side this week after serving as the 18th player against Wales, says the pressure of defending their title is something the team views as a privilege.
She says the Jillaroos remain focused on their goal of securing a fourth consecutive World Cup title, but their immediate priority is delivering a strong performance against Fiji.
Apps says the team's theme for the week is excellence, with players focused on improving individually and collectively and making the most of every opportunity.
The Bulikula will face the Jillaroos at 6.45pm Sunday at Allianz Stadium, with a place in the Rugby League World Cup final at stake.
The match will be followed by the men's semi-final between the Australian Kangaroos and Samoa at 9.05pm.
