If the Bible says we are all equal in the eyes of the Lord, why are we changing that in the Constitution.
This question was raised by Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Lawrence Kumar during the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026 consultation at Nadi Civic Centre.
Kumar has urged the Joint Committee to reconsider the proposed constitutional amendment.
He is calling for Fiji to remain a secular state, raising concerns that the proposed Constitution places greater emphasis on Christianity.
Kumar says although he is a Christian himself, his religious beliefs do not give him the right to impose his faith on others.
He stresses that everyone should be treated equally under the Constitution, regardless of their religious beliefs.
