A Tropical Disturbance 01F which is located near Cook Islands has intensified into a Tropical Depression and is expected to develop into a Category 1 Tropical Cyclone however, this will have no effect on Fiji.
The Nadi Weather Office says the system is currently moving southwards and is forecast to pass close to Suwarrow before moving towards the southern Cook Islands.
A Tropical Cyclone Alert remains in force for Palmerston, Aitutaki and nearby islands.
Damaging gale-force winds may develop over Suwarrow later tonight, with gale-force winds potentially affecting parts of the southern Cook Islands during the weekend.
Fiji Met, as the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre, continues to monitor the system and provide updates for the region.
