Fiji launches Cyber Security Incident Reporting Portal and two other initiatives
Fiji has launched the National Cyber Security Incident Reporting Portal, a Government Chat Assistant and the Cyber Champions Programme to strengthen the country's response to cyber threats, improve access to online safety information and build cybersecurity awareness among Fijians.

The three initiatives are part of the Government's efforts to create a safer and more resilient digital environment as Fiji continues its digital transformation.

Speaking during the launch at the National Cyber Security Resilience Convention 2026, Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua says the Reporting Portal, hosted on the national cyber website, will provide a central platform for critical infrastructure operators, businesses, government agencies and other organisations to report cyber incidents and security concerns directly to Fiji's cybersecurity response authorities.

The Minister says timely reporting is critical when organisations experience suspicious online activities, compromised accounts, disruptions to digital services or potential data breaches.

He says the portal will make reporting more accessible and improve national coordination in responding to cybersecurity threats.

He says the Fiji Government Chat Assistant, will help people access information on government websites more easily.

Naivalurua says the chatbot will be introduced in phases across government websites, beginning with the national cyber website.

He says it will help Fijians find information on recognising suspicious messages, protecting online accounts, responding to potential scams and adopting safer online practices.

However, he stresses that the chatbot is an information resource and does not replace specialist technical assistance or official cyber incident reporting channels.

He says the Cyber Champions Programme initiative is developed by the Ministry in collaboration with EU CyberNet aimed at establishing a network of individuals who will promote cybersecurity awareness and safer digital practices in schools, universities, workplaces and communities.

The Minister says the programme will primarily target young people and other selected participants, with the first group expected to begin early next year.

He says the six-month programme will include online seminars and activities to strengthen participants' cybersecurity knowledge, communication skills and leadership capabilities.

Virtual learning opportunities will also allow participants from outside Suva to take part.

Meanwhile, the Minister has announced that the Ministry will begin work on introducing a cybersecurity legislative framework for Fiji.

He says this is an urgent priority and will involve examining legal and regulatory arrangements covering cybersecurity responsibilities, governance, preparedness, incident response and coordination.

The Ministry will also explore the establishment of a centralised national cybersecurity entity.

The Minister says these proposals will require careful planning, technical input and consultations with government agencies, industry representatives, critical infrastructure operators and other stakeholders.

He has also announced plans to introduce high-level guidelines for the responsible adoption and use of artificial intelligence in Fiji, in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union.

The Government is also working with Standards Australia to assess Fiji's readiness for AI adoption and support the development of appropriate standards.

The Minister says cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and is urging businesses, organisations and individuals to take practical steps to protect their information, strengthen security measures and prepare for potential cyber incidents.

He adds that the success of Fiji's National Cyber Security and Resilience Strategy 2026–2031 will depend on how effectively its priorities are implemented and translated into measurable improvements in national cybersecurity capabilities.
