Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has ordered his office to urgently look into a land related case this morning.

This follows Commodore Bainimarama’s decision to visit a Sigatoka resident, Latchmaiya, yesterday after he wrote to the Prime Minister asking for assistance.

Latchmaiya said over the last 10 years, he has been paying rent to his neighbour for the land he is occupying.

He claimed that his neighbour always told him that the land was owned by him.

However, Latchmaiya later found out that the land is a crown reserve.

The Sigatoka resident has applied for a lease but the Lands Ministry is yet to respond.

Commodore Bainimarama said Latchmaiya had also applied for a native lease some years ago however the iTaukei Land Trust Board is yet to get back to him.

Latchmaiya said he has already paid $3,000.

The Prime Minister said his office will check the Lands Ministry and the iTaukei Land Trust Board today.
