Waqanidrola Named in Basketball Squad

Fiji netball team captain, Matila Waqanidrola has switched codes as she has been named in the 12-member Fiji Women’s Basketball squad for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Spain.

Waqanidrola played for the Fiji Women’s basketball side in a warm-up match against the Wellington Invitational side last month and impressed coach Michael Whippy.

Also named in the squad are five overseas based players. US based Mikaelar Whippy will captain the side while another US based player Valerie Nainima is named the vice-captain. Aggie Tuilevuka is also from the US while Bulou Tuisue and Letava Whippy are from New Zealand.

The Fiji Women’s Basketball team will have to finish in the top two to book a ticket to the Beijing Olympics.

The FIBA Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament will be held in Spain from 9th to 15th June.
