8 to 9 cases of dengue reported daily

Eight to nine cases of dengue fever are being reported in the Central Division daily.

This is according to Center for Communicable Disease Control Officer Dr Mike Kama who said initially 13 cases were being reported on a weekly basis.

He said there is a concerning surge of dengue cases in the Central Division.

Dr Kama said cases have been reported from the Nausori, Navua and Suva subdivisions and so far they have recorded more than 60 reported cases of dengue fever.

Initially it was 42, however, in a span of seven days they have received 19 new cases.

People have been urged to keep their compounds clean, especially destroying all mosquito breeding sites as it is transmitted by mosquitoes.

The Ministry of Health is also advising those who display symptoms of dengue fever to immediately go to a hospital.

The symptoms include an intense headache especially behind the eyes, a sudden fever, muscle and joint pains, flushed skin or rashes on the arms and legs, and perhaps minor bleeding of the gums and or nose.
 
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and municipalities will undertake insecticide spraying from today in the Suva urban and suburban localities only.

Insecticide spraying will occur between 6am to 10am and from 6pm to 9pm in the afternoons.
