The Fiji Council of Social Services is calling on the government to implement a universal pension scheme for those people who are not civil servants and not a member of the Fiji National Provident Fund.
FCOSS Director Hassan Khan said included in their submission to government for the 2010 National Budget is a proposal to also allow FNPF members better access to their funds.
Khan adds another proposal they have submitted is that there be an increase in the Family Assistance Scheme for the poorest of the poor and for the money to be given on a weekly basis and not the monthly payments currently being made.
The 2010 National Budget will be announced by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama next Friday.
