A new 1.2 Solar Photovoltaic system which provides electricity to the new huts at the University of the South Pacific was commissioned today.
Head of School of Engineering and Physics, Atul Raturi said the PV system will also provide lighting and laptop and mobile charging points.
Raturi said with the new solar system, this will address the energy needs in the Pacific and support Pacific islands creativity in finding alternative energy sources.
Meanwhile the U.S Embassy provided a US$21,000 grant to USP's Science Division. Regional Environment Officer US Embassy, Dr Norman Bart said this will also support Pacific Islands creativity in finding alternative energy sources.
