The incoming president of the Methodist Church of Fiji Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said people should just accept that Fiji is a Christian country.
Reverend Waqairatu has told Pacific Beat that those that are thinking otherwise should understand that the Fijian chiefs have already made the decision.

Reverend Waqairatu said people from other religious groups will be allowed to practice their beliefs.
However, he said the church’s role is clear.
When Fijivillage contacted Reverend Waqairatu, he said that he will not make any comments on the church’s stand that Fiji should be a Christian state.
Reverend Waqairatu said the church committee has now advised him not to make any comments.
However, Fijivillage has questioned him why he does not want to speak to us when he has made comments to the Australian media.
He said he can only speak after they make the submission to the Constitution Commission.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has already stressed that no religion will be given preference over another in Fiji.
One of the non-negotiables in the new constitution is that Fiji will be a secular state.
