Stats Show Increase In Imports
July 2008 has seen vegetable products, mineral products, machinery, mechanical and electrical appliances, parts and vehicles, aircraft and associated transport equipment take up the bulk of imports for Fiji.

According to the Bureau of Statistics in its latest Overseas Merchandise Trade Stats 5.5 percent of vegetable products were imported, 35.3 percent of mineral products were imported with 16.6 percent of this being industrial diesel oil, while machinery, mechanical and electrical appliances and parts made up 12.4 percent while vehicles, aircraft and associated transport equipment contributed 13.1 percent.

The Bureaus of Stats said compared to June, imports increased by $130.6 million while total exports increased by $33.9 million with the trade deficit being $250.2 million. For July, Fiji imported mainly from Singapore, Australia, USA, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
