More than 20 families will soon have proper sanitation as the groundbreaking ceremony of Kalekana Settlement upgrading took place today.
Minister of Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment Colonel Samuela Saumatua who was the chief guest at the ceremony said Lami Town Council had made a commitment to enhance the settlement in its town which required urgent assistance.
However he said due to limited resources and budget, the town council could not undertake the project alone needing financial support.
The ministry establishing a co-funding arrangement with Asian Coalition of Housing Rights has put aside $80,000 for the upgrade of the sanitation facilities in the settlement and works are expected to be completed sometime next year.
