Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority officials have intercepted a person carrying more than 7.5 kg of crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine at Nadi International Airport.
Public Affairs and Marketing Officer, Salvin Deo said the 60-year-old suspect was travelling on an American passport and arrived in Nadi from Hong Kong.
Deo said during the processing, the suspect’s baggage was inspected and the crystal like substance were found concealed in a black plastic, stacked in a false walling around his suitcase.
Meanwhile Deo said a number of field tests were carried out by inspection officers and initial results indicated that the substance contained methamphetamine.
Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said the suspect remains in custody as the confirmed report is now with them.
Naisoro said the drug was detected by the Bio Security X-ray machine with the assistance of the Police sniffer dog Skipper.
