More than 600 people in Nakorotubu, Ra, are expected to benefit from improved access to schools, health services and markets following the commissioning of two community access roads by Rural Development Minister Mosese Bulitavu.
Bulitavu commissioned the Talakei Community Access Road and the Namarai Community Access Road during a visit to the district.

The two projects were funded through the Ministry's Community Access Roads, Footpaths and Footbridges Programme at a total cost of $100,000, with $50,000 invested in each project.
The Namarai Community Access Road serves more than 340 people living in 49 households, while the Talakei Community Access Road benefits 286 residents from 39 households.

For years, residents relied on poorly maintained access routes that often became difficult to use during heavy rain and adverse weather conditions.
The upgraded roads now provide better connections to the main highway network, making it easier for residents to access schools, health facilities, markets and other essential services.
Bulitavu says community access roads are more than just transport links, as they create opportunities for economic growth and improve the quality of life for rural communities.

He says reliable roads are essential for farmers transporting produce, families travelling to schools and health centres, and communities needing access during challenging weather conditions.
Bulitavu adds that the projects demonstrate the Government's commitment to ensuring development reaches rural communities and that no one is left behind.
Community members have welcomed the projects, saying the improved roads will make travel safer and easier, particularly for school children, farmers, the elderly and those requiring access to health and emergency services.
