Fifteen-year-old Suva Grammar School student Elijah Vakacegu achieved a milestone during the Oceania Athletics Championships 2026, carving his name into the record books in the U16 boys 400 and 800 metres events.
In the 400 metres, Vakacegu won gold in a time of 51.56 seconds, breaking the four-year-old record of 51.76 seconds set by Ben Korotki of Tasmania in 2022.

Vakacegu also claimed gold in the U16 boys 800 metres with a time of 2 minutes and 1.06 seconds.
He broke the previous record of 2 minutes and 3.72 seconds, set by Jesiah Low of New South Wales in 2022.
