Miss Nadi Alumeci Davu is stepping onto the Miss Fiji Pageant stage with a heartfelt advocacy centred on charity and the protection of vulnerable children, marking a meaningful start to her journey in this year’s competition.
Davu, who hails from Navoci Village and shares maternal links to Daliconi in Vanua Balavu, describes her journey so far as nothing short of life-changing.
Speaking to fijivillage News, she says many of the experiences throughout the pageant period have been firsts for her, making the entire journey both emotional and rewarding.
She adds that representing her town has been especially meaningful, with the unwavering support of her family being deeply touching and serving as a strong motivation throughout the competition.
Her advocacy focuses on compassion-driven charity in rebuilding lives in Fiji.
Davu says her passion stems from witnessing the work of her father, the Turaga ni Koro of Navoci, who has received immense support from NGOs and charitable groups.
Their assistance, she says, has directly helped families and the Vanua of Nakovacake during times of disaster and hardship.
She believes these organisations are the true frontline workers during crises, whether natural disasters, pandemics, or other emergencies, and hopes to use her platform not only to raise awareness but to advocate for stronger recognition and support for their efforts.
Reflecting on the pageant tour around Viti Levu, Davu says the most impactful moment was the group’s visit to the Veilomani Boys Home in Ba.
Davu says learning the boys’ stories was both shocking and heartbreaking, as many of them had been abandoned by their parents.
She says what stood out most was the love provided by the three caregivers whom the boys affectionately call “mum,” “dad,” and “uncle,” creating a sense of family and belonging.
Believing strongly that such homes are vital for vulnerable children, Davu says they help young people feel valued and supported.
She is encouraging children facing difficulties to seek help without fear, and is urging communities to continue protecting and nurturing their young people.
The Miss Fiji Pageant 2025 begins today until Saturday, with the crowning scheduled to take place at the Suva Civic Centre.
