Two men and a 5-year-old boy have lost their lives in three separate accidents.

Police say the 5-year-old boy died in the Northern Division after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident along the Lekutu-Nabouwalu highway last night.

They say the boy was standing with his father, waiting to cross the road, and it is alleged that he suddenly ran across and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The boy was rushed to the Dreketi Health Centre and later transferred to the Labasa Hospital, where he passed away this morning.

Police say another incident occurred along Kings Road in Teidamu in Lautoka on Friday afternoon, where it is alleged that a 59-year-old man veered onto the opposite lane and hit a car driven by a 34-year-old woman.

They were rushed to the Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where the 59-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man allegedly lost control of his vehicle while travelling towards Kinoya Road yesterday morning, causing it to veer off the road and hit three people walking on the side of the road.

All victims sustained injuries and were rushed to the Valelevu Health Centre and later transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

Police say later in the evening, a 41-year-old man passed away at the Intensive Care Unit, a 14-year-old boy remains admitted in stable condition while a 13-year-old was treated and discharged.

The road death toll currently stands at 24 compared to 45 for the same period last year.

Investigations continue into all three cases.
