The Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s side has booked a Cup semi final showdown against France after escaping the jaws of defeat to overcome Great Britain 17-12 in their final pool match this morning to top their Pool.

It was a tough encounter as it took Fiji 4 minutes to score the first points of the match through an unconverted try to Sevuloni Mocenacagi for a 5-0 lead.

Joji Nasova extended Fiji’s lead to 10-0 with an unconverted try at the stroke of halftime.

Great Britain came back strongly in the second half as they scored two tries and a conversion to lead 12-10 before Fiji came back and scored a converted try through Terio Tamani in the 13th minute for the final score.

Great Britain had the chance to steal the game at the stroke of fulltime, but a slight mistake proved too costly for them and gifted Fiji the win.

Fiji will take on France in the second semi final at 12.18am.

In the first semi final, Spain will take on South Africa at 11.56 tonight.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s will take on Brazil at 7.22pm in the 9th place semi final.

In the Women’s Cup semi final, NZ will play France at 11.12pm and Australia will take on the USA at 11.34pm in the second semi final.
