Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he would have gladly waited for his vaccination until every Fijian received theirs but he wanted to show everyone that he believes in the vaccine.
Bainimarama received his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday and is calling on everyone to accept the vaccine.
He says the vaccine is not only the right thing for each individual's health and safety but is the key that will open the gates to a normal life in Fiji.
Bainimarama is urging people to get vaccinated for themselves, their family and for the country.
The Prime Minister says vaccines have saved the world from diseases that used to cause untold misery such as smallpox and polio and this one is no different.
He adds almost half the country's adults have already received one dose and a good number have received two.
Bainimarama says at the pace we are on, enough Fijians will be vaccinated for us to turn the page on this bleak period in our history and start to live a normal life again.
The Prime Minister says we will socialise, play sports, gather in houses of worship and welcome visitors back in our homes again which is surely something to look forward to.
Bainimarama has also thanked Australia, New Zealand and India for providing us with the vaccines.
