A 22 year old man who allegedly broke into a house and burnt it down in Labasa, has been charged with one count each of arson, burglary and theft.

It is alleged that the accused stole items from the home of a 59 year old in Nabekavu, Labasa on the 12th of May, before setting fire to the property.

He has been produced in the Savusavu Magistrates Court and remanded at the Labasa Corrections Centre until the 7th of June.

Investigators have also managed to recover some of the stolen items.

The owner of the house, Mahendra Kumar had earlier highlighted that he was returning from Suva when his household items like fridge, TV, chainsaw, food items, and clothes were all stolen and the house was set on fire.
