Schools will continue to operate as normal at this stage, however, the Ministry of Education is urging parents and guardians to remain alert and exercise caution as a Heavy Rain Alert remains in force for the Fiji Group.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has advised school heads to closely monitor weather conditions in their respective areas and work with parents and guardians in making decisions regarding student attendance should conditions worsen.
He says the safety and well-being of students remain the highest priority.
Radrodro is urging parents and guardians to use their discretion and avoid sending children to school if travel routes are unsafe or if rivers, crossings, or roads are flooded.
The Ministry strongly urges students not to attempt to cross flooded rivers, creeks, or waterways to get to school.
The Ministry of Education will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as necessary.
Parents and the public are also advised to follow all safety advisories issued by the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO).
