The Sigatoka Town Council is in the process of holding talks with the Tourism Stakeholders and Fiji Sugar Corporation to revive the tram lines as a means of public transportation and also to promote the Salad Bowl of Fiji as a tourist destination.
The tram lines, which are lying idle, were used as a means to transport sugarcane to the sugar mills.
Special Administrator, Aisea Tuidraki revealed to Fijivillage that transportation has always been a challenge for people of Sigatoka and reviving the tram lines will ease the means of transportation for not only the everyday commuters but the farmers as well.
Sigatoka is also known for its's Sand Dunes and Tuidraki said utilizing the tram lines will mean another tourist attraction for their town as it will be a unique experience.
