The historic achievement of Iliesa Delana at the London 2012 Paralympic Games is being honored with the launch of the commemorative 50 cent coins today.
Speaking at the launch Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji Barry Whiteside calls the coin symbolic as it is something to inspire us all to strive for the best.
While the front of the coin features the Fijian coat of arms the reserve side has the iconic image of Delana clearing the bar at 1.74m at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
For Delana he is humbled by being the first sportsman ever in the history of the country to feature on a coin.
Only 500,000 of the coins have been struck and will be issued into circulation today.
The coin is legal tender and can be used to pay for goods and services as well.
The launch is also part of the Reserve Bank of Fiji's 40th anniversary celebrations.
