60-year-old retired school teacher Arieta Waivuke is one of the nine retired teachers who have received their air tickets to go to Tuvalu as a volunteer.
She said being in the teaching profession for 37 years will greatly assist her in helping the students.
Permanent Secretary of PSC Parmesh Chand said it is a remarkable development in our history as well as the achievement of government as they have worked together with nine ministries to make this happen.
Chand said the volunteers will provide their service to further enhance their capabilities in the education sector.
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education at USP Dr Akanisi Kedrayate highlighted that the volunteers went through a stringent process of recruitment before being chosen.
Dr Akanisi commended the volunteers on their initiative to share their skills and knowledge with the community of Tuvalu.
