Good news for 160 people of Urata settlement in Labasa after a new water system was donated to the community this morning.
42 year old resident Suresh Chandra said for 40 years they had to rely on nearby streams, rain water, wells and the PWD water trucks to get their supply of water.
Now they have a safe and reliable source of water.
With this new borehole, water tanks have also been installed to supply safe drinking water to all the villagers.
NZ Trade Commissioner Peter Lund and Vodafone Fiji CEO and Chairman Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation Aslam Khan officially opened the new water system today.
This is a NZAID funded program where the Foundation received over seven hundred thousand New Zealand dollars for twenty similar projects.
