The People’s Democratic Party said it will remove laws like the Essential National Industries Decree and the Public Order Amendment Decree if it gets into parliament as the party believes it restricts the rights of the people.
Spokesperson Nirmal Singh said their aim is to get into parliament and amend some of the current decrees and remove some altogether.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has already said that parliament can make decisions on any of the decrees.
However, the parliamentarians cannot go back to the actions taken under the decree from 5th December 2006 to the first sitting of parliament.
Section 173(4) of the 2013 Constitution states that no court or tribunal shall have the jurisdiction to accept, hear, determine, or in any way entertain or grant any orders, which seeks to challenge or question the validity or legality of any promulgation, decree or declaration from December 5th 2006 to the first sitting of parliament.
