Australian national and Catholic priest Father Kevin Barr has been told to leave Fiji by this Sunday.
Fijivillage has received confirmation that the Minister for Defense and Immigration Joketani Cokanasiga has declared Father Barr a Prohibited Immigrant and the government has initiated the removal process.
According to the Fijian government, Father Barr breached his work permit conditions many times and the removal letter was delivered to him this evening.
Officials said the removal letter could not be handed earlier this afternoon as he has sought refuge at the Australian High Commission.
They said everything will be conducted in the professional manner.
When contacted this afternoon, Father Barr said he has been told by Ministry of Defense and Immigration officials that he will be handed a letter this evening asking him to leave the country.
He said he has been assured that he will not be harassed, arrested or deported.
Father Barr said he is disappointed with the decision as he has been in Fiji over the last 32 years.
He said it is unfortunate that his stay in Fiji has been terminated.
Father Barr also believes that his role is not just praying in church but he thought he could be involved in other activities.
Father Barr was also the People’s Community Network Advisor.
