ACT Brumbies scrumhalf Nic White will give away a 50-kilogram weight advantage to throw himself in front of rampaging giant Ben Tamefuna at Canberra Stadium tonight.
But even as he stands in front of the 137-kilogram Waikato Chiefs prop, White knows his on-field courage is nothing compared to soldiers who have made sacrifices for Australia.
That’s why bleary-eyed White woke up at 4am to go with his family, and some of his teammates, to the dawn service at the Australian War Memorial, just 12 hours before kick-off in the Brumbies Super Rugby blockbuster against the Chiefs.
White’s grandfather served in the defence forces and he marched every year as a child in Scone.
The Brumbies are fighting for grand final redemption after losing the championship to the Chiefs last year.
The Brumbies take on the Chiefs at 7.40 tonight while the Blues will face the Waratahs at 5.35pm.
