Fiji’s first ever post disaster report out on TC Evan

The total economic value of the disaster effects by Tropical Cyclone Evan is estimated at $194.9 million equivalent to about 2.6% of Fiji’s Gross Domestic Product demonstrating the scale of the cyclone.

This is according to statistics from Fiji’s first ever Post-Disaster Needs Assessment or PDNA Report.
 
According to the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Colonel Inia Seruiratu the value of destruction or damage to physical assets in the affected areas, is estimated to be $121.5 million. 

An additional $73.4 million was identified as losses to the economic flows that are expected to occur in the short to medium term.

Seruiratu said that according to the PDNA findings, approximately 60% of the total population were affected in the post disaster period.

The Northern Division recorded the highest with about 52% of the population being affected. 

The Western Division recorded 38% while the Central Eastern Division recorded 23%.

Meanwhile, Cabinet has approved Fiji’s first ever Post Disaster Needs Assessment Report which is a World Bank initiative.
