The Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA provided funding assistance worth $45,000 to assist the Suva City Council in implementing the waste Minimization Project.
Through this funding JICA has provided 60 x 240 litre wheelie bins with 20 jumbo common bins with double compartments.
The project focuses on two aspects namely the establishment of a central Recycling Collection Centre and the promotion of Waste Separation at Suva Municipal Market.
Meanwhile, the government of Japan has engaged in the Area of Solid Waste Management in Pacific Region including Fiji through mainly Technical Cooperation.
