A delegation of the Executive Board and governing body of the United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Population Fund, and the United Nations Office for Project Services will begin a one week tour of Fiji and Samoa today.
According to a government statement, the purpose of the executive board visit is to enhance the board members understanding of the extent and ways in which the United Nations organizations, position their engagement with Pacific Island countries and territories.
The visit is timely given the upcoming 3rd International conference on small island developing states scheduled to be held in Apia, Samoa from the 1st to 4th of September this year.
Fiji was appointed to the one year chairmanship of the executive board in January this year.
The executive board members will meet government officials and development partners during the tour.
The tour will include site visits of various UNDP and UNFPA projects in Fiji and Samoa.
