The destiny of our nation depends on our work which will ensure Fiji has a solution to its problems.
These were the words of Chairman of the National charter Advisory Council Josefa Serulagilagi as he convened the third meeting of the Council at the parliament complex this morning.
Serulagilagi revealed to the members that four government departments have failed to provide a progress report on the progress in implementing targets adopted by individual Ministries and departments in the 2010 Corporate plans which targets reforms as outlined in the Peoples Charter for Change.
The Committee today received twenty-three reports from various government ministries and departments and Serulagilagi said they will now task the Council Secretariat to carry out on the ground investigations to verify whether these departments have actually carried out the works stated in their report.
The Secretariate is to then compile a report on the progress which will be presented to the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama when he is briefed on the reforms sometime next month.
The Council has also set up a Monitoring Center where government Ministries and departments will be graded on their progress.
Those that are graded in the red or amber zone would have to explain to the Prime Minister on why there has not been progress in meeting the targets set out and Ministry heads will be held responsible.
Those in the green will indicate good progress.
The National Charter Advisory Council is currently focusing on three sectors, Good Governance, Growing the Economy and Social and Cultural issues for 2009 to 2012, and it is tasked to be a watchdog for the government to ensure on the ground progress is being made to implement the reforms as mapped out in the Peoples charter.
Serulagilagi stressed that they will not just depend on the reports but will ensure actual work has been carried out and that the targeted reforms are implemented effectively in all sectors of government until 2014.
The Council meeting continues at the parliamentary complex.
