2012 has recorded the highest number of rape cases with 132.
According to the Crimes trend and patterns compiled by the Fiji Police Force presented at the National Community Police Symposium, a total of 1,099 rape cases were recorded from 2008 to 2012 in Fiji.
From this number, children aged between 6 to 17 years old were recorded as the highest number of victims.
The southern division recorded the highest number of rape cases with 434 cases in the last five years.
307 cases were on children aged between 6 to 17 years old.
According to the report, the offenders were noted to be aged between 15 to 62 years old who are either farmers or unemployed.
On the report on other divisions in the last five years, 191 rape cases were recorded in the east, 281 cases in the west, 10 cases were recorded by the Totogo Police.
Police Commissioner Brigadier General Iowane Naivalurua said that police and the community need to work together on this issue.
The National Community Police Symposium resumes today in Nasova.
