The outgoing Archbishop of Suva Petero Mataca has sought forgiveness for the hurt he has caused during his tenure.
In a statement that included the announcing of Father Doctor Peter Loy Chong as the Archbishop of Suva elect, Mataca said he expresses his gratitude to all the people of Fiji, Rotuma, Rabi and Kioa for their prayers and support during his time of leadership.
He added he humbly asks for forgiveness for the hurt he may have caused.
Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Petero Mataca.
The 79-year-old prelate had tendered his resignation upon reaching the age of 75, in conformity with canon 401 of the Code of Canon Law.
The Archbishop-elect Father Doctor Peter Loy Chong a diocesan priest of the Archdiocese of Suva was born in 1961 at Korovou, Tailevu and comes from a family of seven: 3 boys & 4 girls and home is Korovou town.
The Archbishop-elect received his primary school education in Natovi Catholic Mission School and went to St. John’s College, Cawaci, Levuka for his secondary education.
Fr Peter entered the Pacific Regional Seminary in 1984.
He was ordained a priest on 11th January 1992 by Archbishop Petero Mataca at Natovi Catholic Mission.
