Teacher to be sentenced tomorrow

The 49 year old music teacher of Kadavu who was convicted of raping a 13 year old girl on the 26th of May, two years ago will be sentenced tomorrow.

Suva High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo concurred with the unanimous guilty opinion of the three assessors.

Justice Temo in his judgement said he accepted the prosecution’s version of events.

He said the evidence of the complainant was supported by the doctor’s medical report and he accepted it.

However Judge Temo rejected the teacher’s denial and rejected it, he said the teacher was not a credible witness.

The court heard that the accused had asked the father of the 13 year old girl and her sister to clean his house on the day of the offence, in which their father agreed because he trusted the teacher.

He is currently in custody and will be sentenced tomorrow.
