The Education Ministry is calling on parents to pay for their children's bus fare for the first week after school starts next week.

Education Minister Filipe Bole said bus fare coupons have been supplied to District Education Offices for distribution to schools. However, he said this will take some time to accomplish which is why they are advising parents to pay their children's fares for a week.

Meanwhile, the electronic ticketing for student bus fare is expected to be in use by the beginning of term two.

Bole said that Telecom Fiji Limited as supplier of electronic tickets is holding talks with the Ministry of Transport in consultation with the Ministry of Education.

He said it should be ready by the middle of the year.

Bole added the E tickets will contain the student's name, his/her identification number, the issue and expiry dates of tickets, the bus stages where tickets are to be used and the subsidy given.
