The proposed village by laws which the Indigenous Affairs Ministry wants to introduce will ensure that girls and women who live in the villages in Fiji do not wear shorts.
Deputy Permanent Secretary Colonel Apakuki Kurusiga said the proposed by laws are now being discussed at the tikina and provincial council level and he confirms that the clothes that people wear in the villages is addressed in the proposed by laws.
Colonel Kurusiga also confirmed that in the proposal only females are not allowed to wear shorts.
Colonel Kurusiga said the village by law is trying to ensure that the villagers respect those living in the village.
Consultations on the proposed village by laws are currently underway.
