Majority of the resorts and hotels around Fiji have not sustained major damages.
This is the comment from Permanent Secretary for Tourism Elizabeth Powell.
Powell said during their first round of assessments carried out yesterday, they have seen that the resorts and hotels in the outer islands have suffered some extent of damage with resorts in the Western Division not affected so badly.
She added no injuries to tourists or employees of the tourism sector were reported.
Powell said they are still to await a final assessment report after which they can give a clear indication as to what the cost and level of damages were due to Cyclone Evan.
Meanwhile, Trans International Hotel Nadi suffered extensive damages during the height of Tropical Cyclone Evan.
Hotel manager James Kumar said nine corrugated iron roofs blew off from one of their main blocks following which 8 tourists had to be accommodated in other blocks.
Kumar said nobody was injured during the incident and their insurance company is now assessing the cost of damages and repair works to be carried out.
