Women's issues and poverty will be at the top of Fiji’s agenda at the Sixth Asian and Pacific Population Conference currently held in Bangkok, Thailand from September 16th to 20th, 2013.
Fiji is amongst the 47 Asian Pacific countries represented at the global conference.
Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni will be presenting Fiji's statement at the conference tomorrow.
The Conference reviews the progress made in the past 10 years in the Asia-Pacific region in implementing the Programme Action Plan of the International Conference on Population and Development.
She said Fiji will be making a presentation on the population issues affecting the country.
The Conference will also tackle a range of issues critical to human rights and development, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and women=s empowerment, HIV and AIDS, gender-based violence, and the rights of young people.
Dr Luveni said the conference will enable Fiji to reflect on the progress made and address challenges related to population and development.
She said the achievements will assist the government to come up with enhanced strategies in addressing issues related to Fiji's population
Meanwhile, Dr Luveni is accompanied by Rupeni Fatiaki, Director of Social Welfare and Luisana Naimawi, Principal Economic Planning Officer.
