Four people charged with the alleged murder of a carpenter of Nadi earlier this week have been remanded in custody by the Nadi Magistrates Court.
Rakesh Kumar, Mataiasi Ului, Maikeli Loko and Vinod Segran appeared before Magistrate Mosese Naivalu in a special court sitting yesterday afternoon.
The four made an application for bail which was objected by DPP lawyer Alvin Singh who told the court that the four are residing near the complainant’s house and there is high chance of interference with state witnesses.
Magistrate Naivalu remanded the four in custody due to the seriousness of the case.
The matter has also been transferred to the High Court which will be called on the 2nd of next month.
The four are alleged to have assaulted the carpenter whereby he later died at the Lautoka Hospital.
The initial report of assault was reported at the Nadi Police Station when the victim was found lying injured at his house by his brother.
According to a Police report, it is alleged he was assaulted after being accused of practicing witchcraft.
