Flood waters are now rising in Rakiraki with the market end of the town now underwater along with Naqoro Flats and also Qalau and FSC roads.
This has been confirmed by Sitiveni Tavaga, provincial administrator Ra.
Tavaga added though a fibre glass boat is being secured to assist residents, the rising water along with strong winds and heavy rain will restrict emergency rescue operations from accessing certain areas.
Furthermore he said it is hard to monitor the situation for those along the coastal areas of Nakorotubu and the villages on Nananu-I-Ra and Malake as all mobile and landline communications have been cut off.
Meanwhile, Togovere village hall has also opened up as an evacuation centre.
