Fiji can no longer rely on importing goods from neighbouring countries like Australia and New Zealand and it is now time to also look at what the Asian market can offer.

Speaking to the members of the Lau Provincial Council in Deuba this afternoon, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said we have to move away from relying on NZ and Australia in importing goods from abroad as there are talks underway with countries like China and India where we can strengthen our trade ties.

Commodore Bainimarama who has just returned from China said this will see a cement factory set up in Fiji in the near future to assist low income earners build affordable houses.

He added that the Chinese businessmen have also shown interest in entering into the Tourism Industry and other business opportunities in Fiji.

Meanwhile earlier today Bainimarama said in a way to unite the nation and eradicate racial discrimination, the word "Fijian" is to be used to refer to all the people of Fiji.

The meeting continues tomorrow.
